Barolo that has told the story of the Viberti family for over a century
The Barolo Buon Padre DOCG 2022 is the flagship wine of Viberti Giovanni, a historic winery whose story dates back more than a century. Its origins go back to 1923, when Giovanni Viberti began producing a special Barolo to serve guests at the family’s historic inn, “Il Buon Padre,” founded in 1896.
Today, Buon Padre remains the wine that best represents the Viberti style: a classic Barolo created from grapes sourced from several historic vineyards in the Langhe. Each parcel contributes its own character, resulting in a wine that combines elegance, structure, complexity, and ageing potential.
Produced exclusively from Nebbiolo, Buon Padre is made from carefully selected grapes from vineyards in some of the most renowned areas of the Barolo denomination, including Bricco delle Viole, San Pietro, Ravera, Perno, Fossati, San Ponzio, and La Volta. The different parcels are vinified separately before being brought together in the final blend, preserving the distinctive character of each vineyard.
The winemaker’s notes
"Buon Padre is a Barolo that perfectly embodies the meaning of balance. It does not seek power for its own sake, but elegance, depth, and harmony. It is a wine capable of giving great pleasure today while evolving beautifully for many years to come."
— Yuri Stefani
Why we chose it
We chose Buon Padre because it is one of the historic names of the Langhe and represents an authentic interpretation of traditional Barolo.
Its complexity comes from the combination of grapes from different vineyards, while the careful winemaking preserves precision and balance. It is an ideal bottle both for those approaching the world of Barolo for the first time and for experienced enthusiasts looking for an elegant Nebbiolo with excellent ageing potential.
The territory
The grapes come from several prestigious vineyards within the Barolo DOCG appellation, located in Barolo, Novello, and other municipalities within the denomination.
The combination of different altitudes, exposures, and calcareous-marly soils gives Nebbiolo complexity and depth. Each vineyard contributes a different dimension to the final wine, from floral elegance and aromatic finesse to spice, structure, and refined tannins.
The result is a Barolo that brings together the diversity of the Langhe in a single, harmonious expression.
The winery
Viberti Giovanni is one of the historic family wineries of Barolo, with generations of experience devoted to Nebbiolo and the traditional wines of the Langhe.
The winery’s philosophy combines respect for tradition with careful attention to every stage of production. Buon Padre is the wine that best expresses this approach: grapes from different vineyards are carefully managed and vinified before being brought together to create a Barolo of depth, elegance, and balance.
