The character of Bordeaux in Château de Ricaud Bordeaux Supérieur
Château de Ricaud Bordeaux Supérieur is an elegant and approachable Bordeaux red, built around the softness of Merlot and the structure provided by the Cabernet varieties.
A wine that expresses the classic character of Bordeaux through a predominantly fruity profile, with red and dark berry notes, subtle spice and a pleasant structure on the palate. Stainless-steel vinification and ageing preserve the freshness and clarity of the fruit.
The winemaker's notes
A Bordeaux that I appreciate for its immediacy and balance between fruit and structure. Merlot brings softness and roundness, while the Cabernet varieties contribute freshness and a pleasant tannic texture. It is a classic table-friendly Bordeaux: versatile, balanced and free from excessive oak influence.

Why we chose it
We chose Château de Ricaud Bordeaux Supérieur because it offers an enjoyable and accessible expression of the Bordeaux style.
The wine is based on traditional Bordeaux varieties, with Merlot as the main component, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Stainless-steel vinification and ageing keep the focus on fruit, freshness and drinkability.
It is a particularly versatile food wine: structured enough for meat dishes, while remaining fresh and easy to drink.
The terroir
Château de Ricaud is located in Loupiac, on the right bank of the Garonne, within the Bordeaux wine region. The estate has a long history associated with Loupiac, while also producing red wines under several appellations, including Bordeaux Supérieur.
Bordeaux Supérieur is a regional appellation covering the wider Bordeaux wine region and subject to stricter requirements than the standard Bordeaux appellation. Red wines traditionally rely on Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
The winery
Château de Ricaud is a historic estate centred around a château dating back to the 15th century and later rebuilt in the 19th century in a neo-Gothic style. The estate was acquired by Alain Thiénot in 1980, and since 2007 its wines have been managed by the teams at Dourthe, part of the Thiénot group.
The estate covers around 56 hectares and produces wines under several appellations, including Bordeaux Supérieur, Cadillac-Côtes de Bordeaux and Loupiac.
