The elegance of Pinot Noir in the heart of the Côte de Nuits
The Bourgogne Côte d’Or Rouge by Domaine Michel Gros is a red wine that captures the authentic character of Burgundy through one of its most iconic grape varieties: Pinot Noir. An elegant expression of its terroir, combining fresh fruit, aromatic finesse and a delicate yet well-defined structure.
The grapes come from two plots located in Vosne-Romanée, one of the most renowned villages of the Côte de Nuits. Here, clay-rich and silty soils overlie a subsoil of sand and pebbles dating back to the Pleistocene. These conditions contribute to a wine with expressive fruit, aromatic intensity and refreshing balance.
The winemaker’s notes
What I particularly appreciate about this Bourgogne Côte d’Or Rouge is its ability to express Pinot Noir in an authentic and approachable style, while retaining the finesse associated with the great wines of Burgundy.
The aromatic profile centres on red and dark fruits, with notes of cherry, redcurrant and blackberry, accompanied by delicate earthy and spicy nuances. On the palate, the wine is fruit-driven and smooth, with fine tannins and refreshing acidity that carries the wine through to the finish.
It is a balanced red wine that prioritises varietal expression and drinkability, making it an excellent choice for those looking to discover Burgundy through a wine that combines immediate appeal with a distinct sense of place.

Why we selected it
Domaine Michel Gros’ Bourgogne Côte d’Or Rouge offers an appealing introduction to the wines of the Côte de Nuits, thanks to the origin of its grapes in Vosne-Romanée and the care taken in expressing the character of Pinot Noir.
The use of previously seasoned oak barrels allows the wine to develop complexity without overwhelming its varietal character. The result is a red Burgundy in which fresh fruit remains at the forefront, supported by an elegant structure and a pleasing depth of flavour.
It is an excellent choice for the table, pairing versatility with the distinctive personality of Burgundy Pinot Noir.
The terroir
The wine comes from Vosne-Romanée, in the Côte de Nuits, within Burgundy’s prestigious Côte d’Or wine region.
The two plots are situated on the lower part of the slope, east of Route Nationale 74. The soils are composed of clay and silt, with an underlying layer of sand and pebbles dating back to the Pleistocene.
The limited limestone content contributes to the site's distinctive character. In this setting, Pinot Noir can develop an appealing balance of fruit, acidity and fine tannins.
The winery
Domaine Michel Gros is a family estate deeply rooted in Vosne-Romanée and the winemaking traditions of the Côte de Nuits. Michel Gros produced his first vintage in 1979, continuing a family history closely connected to Burgundy.
For this Bourgogne Côte d’Or Rouge, the estate uses grapes from two plots covering approximately 0.80 hectares, with vines averaging 35–40 years of age and an indicative annual production of around 7,000 bottles.
Winemaking follows traditional Burgundian practices. The wine is aged in two stages: the first six months in large oak casks in a historic cellar, followed by a further twelve months in traditional barrels that have already been used for one to three vintages of higher-classification wines.
This approach encourages the wine to develop complexity while preserving the freshness, fruit and varietal expression of Pinot Noir.
