Malbec in its freshest, juiciest and most approachable expression
Jour Fruit is a red wine that presents Cahors Malbec in a fresh, spontaneous and convivial style. Fabien Jouves focuses on fruit and drinkability while preserving the grape's character and the identity of Cahors' limestone soils.
The wine is made from a blend of several vineyard parcels on the limestone plateaus of Cahors, farmed according to organic principles. The vines are approximately 25 years old on average, producing a Malbec with generous fruit balanced by lively freshness.
Gentle winemaking, with fermentation in concrete and stainless-steel tanks and a relatively short maceration, helps preserve the freshness of the grapes. Six months of ageing in concrete keep the wine focused on fruit without adding unnecessary weight.
The winemaker’s notes – Yuri Stefani
A lively and enjoyable Malbec that puts the grape's fruity character centre stage. The nose reveals red and black berries, with floral hints and a subtle touch of spice. On the palate, it is soft and juicy, with gentle tannins and refreshing acidity that carries through to the finish.
This is a red wine made for sharing: versatile, straightforward and very food-friendly. It can also be served slightly chilled, especially during the warmer months.
Why we chose it
Because it offers a different perspective on Malbec from the more structured and concentrated Cahors wines. Here, fruit takes the lead, supported by freshness and easy drinkability. An honest, approachable organic wine, ideal for informal meals and for anyone who enjoys reds without excessive extraction or oak influence.
The terroir
The grapes come from several parcels on the limestone plateaus of Cahors, in south-western France. These soils, characteristic of the Causses area, help give Malbec freshness and an appealing sense of tension. The grape is also locally known as Côt.
The altitude and limestone soils favour an expression in which fruit remains at the forefront, while the wine retains balance and a clear sense of place.
The winery
Fabien Jouves runs Mas del Périé, an estate founded in 2006 in the hills of Cahors. His work focuses on expressing the different facets of Malbec through careful parcel selection and environmentally respectful viticulture. The estate follows organic and biodynamic practices, with winemaking designed to preserve the identity of the grapes and their origins.
