The Collio white wine from Capriva's oldest vineyards
The 2019 Vecchie Vigne Collio DOC from Azienda Agricola Roncùs is one of the winery's signature wines and one of the deepest and most age-worthy expressions of the Collio.
It comes from the oldest vineyards in Capriva del Friuli, more than 60 years old, and combines three traditional local grape varieties: 60% Istrian Malvasia, 30% Friulano and 10% Ribolla Gialla.
This is a wine designed to express the territory through time. Short skin contact, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and extended ageing in oak and stainless steel create a complex, elegant and deep white wine capable of developing for many years.
It is not a wine built around immediate freshness. Instead, it is a white wine that needs time to reveal itself, showing the richness of old vines and the mineral character of the Collio soils.
The winemaker's notes
"Vecchie Vigne is one of those wines that shows how beautifully a great white wine can evolve over time. Malvasia brings aromatic intensity, Friulano balance and Ribolla Gialla freshness. Extended ageing allows these elements to come together while giving the territory room to express itself with remarkable depth."

Why we chose it
We chose Roncùs Vecchie Vigne because it perfectly represents our idea of a great Italian white wine: distinctive, complex and capable of ageing.
What we particularly appreciate is the way it combines the aromatic richness of Istrian Malvasia with the structure of Friulano and the freshness of Ribolla Gialla.
It is a bottle for those who want to move beyond the idea of young white wines and discover just how fascinating a mature white wine from the Collio can be.
A wine to open slowly and give time in the glass, allowing its complexity to emerge gradually.
The territory
Vecchie Vigne comes from Capriva del Friuli, in the heart of the Collio area of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The vineyards dedicated to this wine are more than 60 years old and are located on the hills, on the characteristic marl-rich soils of this part of Friuli.
The old vines, with naturally lower yields, represent an important heritage for Roncùs and produce grapes with concentration and distinctive character.
The combination of soil, climate and vine age contributes to the wine's distinctive balance of minerality, structure and elegance.
The winery
Azienda Agricola Roncùs was established in Capriva del Friuli in 1985, although the Perco family's relationship with this land goes back three generations. The winery's philosophy is centred on preserving its old vineyards and producing wines that express the territory as clearly as possible.
The vineyards are grass-covered and managed according to organic farming principles, with hand harvesting and minimal intervention.
In the cellar, Roncùs favours spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and extended ageing. For Vecchie Vigne, time is an essential part of the winemaking process: one year in 20-hectolitre oak barrels followed by 22 months in stainless steel on its own lees.
