Langhe Chardonnay: freshness, elegance and a sense of place
Filebasse Chardonnay Piemonte DOC by Viberti Giovanni comes from the hills of Vergne di Barolo, in the heart of the Langhe, Piedmont.
Its name recalls an old Piedmontese farming tradition: the lower parts of the hills, known as file basse, were traditionally considered particularly suitable for white grape varieties, thanks to their cooler and more humid conditions.
From this setting comes a Chardonnay that combines the elegance of the grape variety with the distinctive character of the Langhe, while deliberately avoiding the heavier, oak-driven style often associated with Chardonnay.
Made from 100% Chardonnay, Filebasse is fermented and aged exclusively in stainless steel, with no wood. This approach allows the wine to preserve its freshness, natural acidity, delicate aromas and subtle mineral character, resulting in a clean, elegant and highly versatile white wine.
The winemaker's notes
"This Chardonnay shows that the Langhe can produce distinctive and expressive white wines. Without the influence of wood, the grape variety can express itself naturally, with crisp fruit, white flowers, freshness and a subtle mineral character. A wine that is elegant, easy to drink and always invites another glass."

Why we chose it
We chose Filebasse because it represents a thoughtful and consistent interpretation of Chardonnay.
In a territory internationally renowned for its great red wines, Viberti Giovanni takes a different approach, producing a white wine focused on freshness, purity and drinkability rather than power or oak.
It is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a fresh and refined Italian Chardonnay, with enough structure and personality to accompany an entire meal.
The territory
The grapes come from the Costa di Vergne vineyards in the municipality of Barolo, where Chardonnay is planted in the lower parts of the hills.
The combination of altitude, temperature variations and the characteristic soils of the Langhe contributes to a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes. This helps preserve acidity and aromatic freshness while giving the wine its delicate mineral and savoury character.
The winery
Viberti Giovanni is a historic family winery based in Barolo, best known for its Barolo and other expressions of Nebbiolo.
Alongside its red wines, the winery has long cultivated Chardonnay with a deliberately different philosophy. Since 2004, Claudio Viberti has chosen to produce Filebasse without the use of wood, focusing instead on the purity of the fruit and the characteristics of the vineyard.
Manual harvesting and a gentle, minimally invasive approach in the cellar help preserve the wine's freshness and natural expression.
