Everyday Barbera born from a family story
La Gemella Barbera d'Alba DOC 2024 by Viberti Giovanni is much more than a Barbera. It is a tribute to Maria Viberti, Claudio Viberti's mother and one of the historical figures behind the family's Trattoria Buon Padre.
Maria was a twin, and this personal detail gave the wine its name: La Gemella, meaning "the twin."
Her philosophy was simple: "Barolo is the wine for special occasions; Barbera is the wine for every day."
La Gemella was born from this idea: an authentic, generous and convivial Barbera d'Alba, made to accompany the table with the same natural ease with which Barbera once accompanied the dishes of the family's traditional cooking.
Made from 100% Barbera, the grapes come from vineyards in Vergne di Barolo, where high-density planting helps produce naturally concentrated and expressive fruit.
The result is a fresh, fragrant and characterful red wine, designed to be enjoyed young, with the structure and balance to develop further over the following years.
The winemaker's notes
"La Gemella represents Barbera in its most authentic expression. It has all the vivacity of the grape, with crisp fruit, beautiful acidity and a pleasantness that makes it one of those wines that always seems to disappear too quickly. It is the ideal red for the everyday table, without compromising on quality."

Why we chose it
We chose La Gemella because it captures the human side of the Viberti family.
It is an uncomplicated wine in the best sense of the word: honest, generous and made for sharing, while retaining the care and precision that define one of Barolo's historic wineries.
This is a Barbera d'Alba with both immediacy and elegance, ideal for those discovering the wines of the Langhe and for enthusiasts looking for an authentic, highly drinkable Piedmontese red.
The territory
The grapes come from vineyards in Vergne di Barolo, in the heart of the Langhe.
The wine is produced from two different vineyard parcels, combining more compact and looser soils. This diversity contributes to a balanced expression of Barbera, bringing together freshness, structure and aromatic intensity.
The altitude and significant day-night temperature variations encourage slow and balanced ripening, helping the grapes retain the vibrant acidity and aromatic character that make Barbera one of Piedmont's most distinctive grape varieties.
The winery
Viberti Giovanni is a historic family winery in Barolo that has been working in the Langhe for three generations, producing wines with a strong connection to their territory.
The family's approach places the vineyard, tradition and identity of each grape variety at the center of its work.
Among the winery's wines, La Gemella perhaps tells its story most personally. Its name, its connection to Maria and its vocation for the everyday table make it a wine rooted not only in the vineyard, but also in the family's history and traditions.
