The Mediterranean breeze in a glass
Mare IGP Calabria Bianco by Cantine Benvenuto expresses the deep connection between the Calabrian landscape and the Mediterranean. It is born from the meeting of Zibibbo and Malvasia, two aromatic grape varieties that capture the bright, sun-filled character of this part of Calabria.
Elegant and immediately expressive, Mare combines the intense aromas of Mediterranean scrub with freshness and a distinctive savory character. It is a wine that brings the sensation of sea breezes to the glass, together with the energy of granitic soils and the biodiversity of the Calabrian hills.
The winemaker's notes
"Mare comes from the meeting of two aromatic souls: Zibibbo, with its intensity and unmistakable Mediterranean character, and Malvasia, which brings elegance and harmony. I love it because it shows how a white wine can express a territory with such a strong personality."
— Yuri Stefani
Why we chose it
We chose Cantine Benvenuto's Mare because it offers an authentic taste of a Calabria that still has so much to discover.
It is an expressive yet balanced white: aromatic without being overpowering, fresh but with enough structure and savory character to make it genuinely gastronomic.
An ideal choice for those looking beyond the better-known international grape varieties and want to discover a white wine that tells the Mediterranean through its aromas, freshness, and strong sense of place.
The territory
The grapes come from Francavilla Angitola (VV), within the Serre Regional Park, at approximately 350 metres above sea level.
The vineyards lie on natural terraces formed over a granitic matrix rich in minerals, a distinctive geological feature that contributes energy and a pronounced savory character to the wines.
The organically cultivated vines are spur-pruned and benefit from the Mediterranean climate and significant day-night temperature variations, which encourage balanced ripening while preserving freshness and aromatic intensity.
The winery
Cantine Benvenuto was founded from Giovanni Benvenuto's vision of rediscovering and enhancing Calabria's wine heritage through a production deeply rooted in the territory and respectful of nature.
The winery works primarily with native and Mediterranean varieties such as Zibibbo, Malvasia, Greco Nero, and Magliocco, combining careful vineyard management, manual harvesting, and a low-intervention approach in the cellar designed to preserve the identity of the grapes.
