The Volcanic Bubbles of Ventotene Island
Pandataria Spumante Brut by Candidaterra is born in one of the most fascinating and unspoiled corners of the Mediterranean: the island of Ventotene, known in antiquity as Pandataria. Surrounded by sea breezes and shaped by volcanic soils, this small island is home to a sparkling wine that captures the distinctive character of its territory.
Made from a blend of Falanghina, Fiano, and Greco, three renowned Southern Italian grape varieties, Pandataria expresses the freshness, savoriness, and elegance of island-grown grapes. The Charmat Method enhances its varietal aromas and natural liveliness, resulting in a fine, fragrant, and wonderfully versatile sparkling wine.
The oenologist’s notes
"What makes this sparkling wine special is its connection to Ventotene. The sea, the wind, and the volcanic soil seem to find their way into the glass as freshness, minerality, and remarkable drinkability. It is a truly Mediterranean sparkling wine, with an original character that sets it apart."
— Yuri Stefani
Why we chose it
We chose Pandataria Spumante Brut because it represents a rare and authentic winemaking story.
This is not a conventional sparkling wine: it is made on a small island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, in limited quantities, as part of an effort to restore and preserve Ventotene’s local viticultural tradition. It is an ideal choice for anyone who enjoys discovering lesser-known territories and wines with a strong sense of place.
The territory
The vineyards are located on the island of Ventotene, within the Natural Reserve of the Islands of Ventotene and Santo Stefano.
The soils are volcanic in origin, with a sandy-clay component, and are constantly influenced by the sea winds. This distinctive environment gives the grapes a pronounced savory character, refreshing acidity, and an unmistakably Mediterranean aromatic profile.
The winery
Candidaterra is a small family-run farm established with the aim of bringing viticulture back to the island of Ventotene.
The vineyards are cultivated with respect for the environment, without the use of pesticides or polluting chemical products, with particular attention to preserving the island’s natural and landscape heritage. Production is deliberately limited in order to maintain quality, authenticity, and a strong connection with the territory.
