The Collio Pinot Bianco: elegance, depth and minerality

The 2021 Pinot Bianco Venezia Giulia IGT from Azienda Agricola Roncùs is an elegant and distinctive white wine that expresses the character of Capriva del Friuli through an international grape variety that has found ideal conditions in the Collio.

Made from 100% Pinot Bianco, it comes from vineyards located between the hills and plains of Capriva del Friuli, on marl-rich hillside soils and shallow, stony soils in the plains. The result is a wine combining aromatic finesse, structure and a distinctive mineral character.

Roncùs' philosophy is based on allowing the grapes and the territory to speak for themselves. Hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and extended ageing on the lees help create a Pinot Bianco with complexity, elegance and excellent ageing potential.

The winemaker's notes

"Pinot Bianco is a grape variety capable of producing wines of great finesse when it finds a territory that can fully express its elegance. In this 2021 vintage, we particularly appreciate the combination of freshness, structure and depth: a white wine that goes beyond immediate drinkability and invites you to follow its evolution in the glass."

— Yuri Stefani

Why we chose it

We chose Roncùs Pinot Bianco because it represents the side of the Collio where an international grape variety becomes deeply connected to its territory.

It is a wine defined by balance and precision: elegant without being delicate, structured without feeling heavy, fresh yet with a depth that also comes from its extended ageing.

It is particularly interesting for lovers of fine white wines that can develop beautifully over time. The 2021 vintage was selected as a Top Wine – Vino Slow by Slow Wine 2025 and received 94 points in the Vitae 2025 guide.

The territory

The wine comes from Capriva del Friuli, in the heart of the Collio area of Friuli Venezia Giulia, one of Italy's most renowned regions for the production of high-quality white wines.

Roncùs' vineyards are divided into small plots across both hillside and flatland sites, each characterised by different soils. The marl-rich soils contribute minerality and salinity, while the surrounding woodland and natural vegetation create a vineyard environment rich in biodiversity.

It is this close relationship between vineyard, soil and natural environment that gives the Pinot Bianco its precise and distinctive personality.

The winery

Azienda Agricola Roncùs was established in Capriva del Friuli in 1985 and continues a family history rooted in this territory for three generations.

Its philosophy is based on essential intervention both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The vineyards are grassed over and managed according to organic farming principles, with minimal intervention and close attention to the surrounding environment.

In the cellar, the grapes are handled with the aim of preserving their identity. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and extended ageing allow the wine to develop complexity while maintaining its elegance.
